Roberta Pinotti was born in Genoa, in 1961; she is Italian senator and member of the Foreign Commission, she is Member of the Italian parliamentary delegation at Nato.
She served twice as Former Italian Defence Minister (2014-2016 and 2016-2018), the first Italian woman to hold this position. Previously, she had appointed president of the fourth commission of the defence of the Chamber, again the first Italian woman to hold this position. She was vice president of the defence commission of the Senate from October 13, 2010 to March 14, 2013. On 2 May 2013, she was appointed Deputy Minister of State at the Ministry of Defense under Minister Mario Mauro in the Letta Government.
In March 2016, at the Court of Honor of the Military Academy of Modena, Roberta Pinotti as Minister of Defence, received the “spadino” of honor, the title of honorary cadet, maximum recognition assignable to civilians by the Academy. She is Officer of the French Order of the Legion of Honor in 24 July 2017.
In October 2014 she visited the United Arab Emirates and met the deputy chief commander of the Armed Forces, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in order to strengthen bilateral relations in the Defense field. In February 2015 she returned to the United Arab Emirates on the occasion of the International Defense Industry Exhibition (IDEX).
